PROSTHETIC DENTISTRY: WHAT IS IT ?

In prosthetic dentistry we come to restore areas of the dental arch that have previously had varying degrees of edentulism (from the loss of a single tooth to the complete edentulism of the arch). The techniques vary and depend on the needs and abilities of each patient: From bridges or partial and complete dentures to implants.

The main benefits

• Functional Restoration (Chewing & Speech): Allows for effective mastication and improves the correct pronunciation of sounds during speech.

• Aesthetic Upgrade: Corrects abnormalities of the smile line, offering a natural and harmonious result, which enhances self-confidence.

• Tooth Protection: Crowns, onlays and overlays strengthen teeth that have suffered extensive damage (e.g. after fractures and endodontic therapies).

• Prevention further Problems: Dental arches of mandible and maxilla come together in a way that allows for maximum contact between teeth. To maintain this principle, the oral system tends to close any gap formed by tooth loss. The teeth on either side of the gap and the opposing jaw migrate to close the gap, changing the architecture of the mouth and disrupting occlusion. This phenomenon has negative consequences for both the moving teeth and the entire dental arch. It is therefore important to maintain proper occlusion by preventing this movement using prosthetic solutions. Rehabilitation can range from a bridge on natural teeth or an implant-supported restoration to a removable work (device or complete denture).

• Long-term Solution: Offers durable restorations, especially with the use of modern materials (monolithic zirconia, lithium disilicate, all-ceramics and their combinations).

• Facial Support: Prosthetic dentistry, depending on the extent and type of rehabilitation, helps support the soft tissues of the face, reconstructs the vertical dimension (height) of the face, providing rejuvenation and toning to the natural features of the cheeks and lips, reducing the appearance of premature aging caused by tooth loss.
